We Love Jungle presents: An interview with David Boomah

We Love Jungle presents: An interview with David Boomah

What does Jungle mean to you?

Jungle means unity, strength, originality and family because Jungle music unified so many different cultures in the early 90’s. Strength, because it is so powerful and even through the industry continues to disregard it, it is as strong as ever. It’s clearly an original UK sound and Jungle has embraced me as a part of its family.

Has your approach to MCing changed since you first started out?

This is a bit of a tricky question for me as I wouldn’t describe myself as an MC really but rather a Singer who MC’s a bit when the mood takes me. The MCing aspect is something I have slowly developed over the years and I do MC a fair bit now as opposed to only singing when I started out in Jungle in 1994.

Where in the world do you think the best Jungle crowd is?

I think it’s impossible to answer that question. I have played to some amazing crowds all over the world and I don’t think I can pick a favourite! I have great memories of Jungle crowds in Liverpool, London, Bristol, Brazil, Lithuania, India, Guatemala, Switzerland and Slovenia, to name a few.

What’s your top Jungle tune at the moment?

Still absolutely loving a track called ‘High Grade’ Featuring Demolition Man by Psychofreud (Liondub Remix).

What up-and-coming DJs and MCs are impressing you at the moment?

Loving the vibes from Jungle Citizens Gold Dubs and Hybrid.

If MCing wasn’t your job, what would it be?

I have always been involved in Youth Work and still do a number of roles in this area, training Youth Workers, developing activities to empower young people and working with my favourite charity London Urban Arts Academy as an Associate Trainer/Consultant.

Any new projects coming up?

Most definitely ….I am currently working on my second album which I am very excited about. The album will be called ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ and will feature soulful tracks and gritty dance floor tracks so, exposing two different sides to me as an artist. My new line of T-Shirts in collaboration with Charge Clothing will be available soon. I also have some great new projects on the way that will feature on the Philly Blunt album produced by L-Side and Serum, collaborations with T.R.A. C form Brooklyn, and music with Rowpieces, Nicky Da Silva, King Yoof, Aries and Gold Dubs Navigator Kosher Unit 137, Parly B and Tradesman, Topcat and many, many more!!!
